How to ride in a large group.....

Please make sure that you have read and understood this section befor you come on a group ride.

Riding a motorbike on your own is totally different from riding in a large group of bikers. The group forms a much larger road obstruction both in width and length. Often other drivers will get frustrated and try to overtake and jump in between the group which can cause a potential accident.

How to ....

1.First allways check you rear vew mirrors at all times so that you know what is happening behind you as much as you know what is happening in front of you.

2. Never ride side by side or more than two abreast except when you are overtaking.

3. Make sure you have sufficient space in front of you for braking

                                                                    --------------------------------------------------------------------

                                                                      ________________________________________________

4. Ride in a staggered formation    =        Sweeper Rider    O      O      O       O       Leed rider                             Note. O=Rider

                                                                                                   O     O      O      O

                                                                     -------------------------------------------------------------------

5. The Leed rider (Front) and Sweeper rider (Rear) will be in radio contact with each other in case the group gets held up at road junctions or any problems etc.

6. Never ride in an aggressive manor or in a way which may threaten other road users.

7. Allways observe and keep to the road speed limits and conditions.

8. Hand signals are used to notify other riders of any problems:-

Left hand touching your helmet = Police or radar trap ahead

Left arm high in the air and sound your horn = I have a problem and need to stop

Any hand and finger pointing down at the ground = Means bad road conditions or pot holes (Left hand = left side.....Right hand = Right      side)

Left hand with one finger  pointing out sidways and downwards = Welcome sign to other bikers

Streatching out your right leg as you overtake a vehicel which has pulled over to let you pass = Thank you!

Pointing down at your petrol cap = I am low on fuel and need to stop at the next garage.

Communications.....

Some of us have helmet communications systems that enable riders to communicate with each other while riding. If you have one and would like to join in then please arrive a little earlier so that we can pair all the devices together. If you want to buy one then be careful as not units are compatable and may not communicate with other headset.

Video.......

If you own a helmet camera and want to video the ride, then please make sure it is securly mounted and does not obstruct the opperation of your motorbike or your view from your helmet.
